Step 1 – Preparation
Little preparation is needed for bonding, especially because anesthesia is not often needed unless you are filling a decayed tooth. So, the only thing your dentist will need to do to prepare the tooth is choose a bonding material that is the same shade of your natural tooth.
Step 2 – The bonding process
Once the perfect bonding material is chosen, the surface of the tooth will be roughened and a conditioning liquid will be applied. This will help the bonding material adhere to the tooth. Your dentist will then place the tooth-colored putty on the tooth and will mold and smooth it into the desired shape. Then, he will use a special ultraviolet light or laser to harden the material. Once hardened, he will further trim and shape it to give it the perfect appearance.
Step 3 – Time to completion
The treatment time for dental bonding should only be 30 to 60 minutes per tooth.
