What is a dental filling?
A dental filling is a restoration that may be used by Dr. Vinh T. Pham when a tooth has decay. The filling can restore the tooth back to its normal function and shape after the decay is removed.
Do I need a dental filling?
When you visit Kirkwood Dental for a routine dental checkup, our dentist will examine each of your teeth to detect if there are any cavities present. Special instruments like dental X-rays may be used to get a closer, more thorough look.
What can I expect when getting a dental filling?
Before beginning treatment, our dentist may use a local anesthetic to numb the tooth and the surrounding tissues. The decay is then removed from the tooth. The area is thoroughly cleaned and checked for any additional decay or debris. When the area is ready, the dental filling will be placed. If a composite filling is used, the material is placed in layers. Each layer is cured before the next layer is placed. The final filling is shaped and polished.
What happens after my dental filling is placed?
The tooth with the dental filling may experience some sensitivity after treatment. This should fade and stop over one to two weeks. If it doesn’t, contact our office for a follow-up appointment.
How do I care for my dental filling?
Dental fillings do not require any special care. Simply care for a tooth with a dental filling in the same way that you care for your other teeth. Brush your teeth twice a day, floss once a day, and visit our dental office often.
