Sometimes our dental routine can turn into a mindless habit, and teeth don’t get as clean as they otherwise would. Here are the steps to make sure you are giving your teeth the best care that you can when you brush your teeth.
The Right Brush: You’ll want to replace your toothbrush every 3-4 months, or sooner if it appears frayed or worn. When you shop for a new toothbrush, look for a soft-bristled brush that can easily reach all areas of your mouth. Look for the ADA Seal of Acceptance to ensure you are getting the most effective product.
Toothpaste: There is specially-formulated toothpaste designed for sensitive teeth, teeth whitening, cavity-prone teeth and other specific tasks. Speak with your dentist to see which toothpaste is most excellent for your mouth.
45 Degree Angle: Position the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to your gums, and make short, moderate, back-and-forth strokes. These should be tooth-wide. To clean the inner surfaces of the front teeth, tilt the brush at a vertical angle and implement multiple up-and-down strokes. Remember that a soft touch is all that’s needed! Brushing too hard can scratch your enamel and gums as well as wear out your toothbrush.
2×2: Brush for two minutes twice a day. If you are just getting back in the habit, attempt to play a favorite song or set a timer. The habit gets easier with consistency, and the payoff is huge!
